Who is your real motivator after all?
Are videos, articles, quotes and music your true source of motivation?
I’ve been in the exciting position of feeling this tremendous amount of ambition and determination running through your veins to achieve a goal, but I’ve also been on the other side of this topic, where you feel less motivated or you start having second thoughts about achieving a goal.
Through my experience, I undoubtedly prefer the position where you feel hyped up and you’re thinking only about your goal. However, when the times were rough I could only think about not reaching my goal anytime soon.
And that’s when my godfather came to me and he said to me these exact words “Remember who you are fighting for”. For those of you who know that there is a quote exactly like that, of course, I know it too. But when my godfather was speaking to me, this quote has been stacked in my mind ever since. And because from that time, my performance on the journey of reaching every goal I wanted, had increased amazingly, I would like to share what I think it takes to be motivated and focus on your goal.
Firstly, I would like to speak about what motivation means actually. Motivation is that fire you feel inside of you, that desire you sense every time you put your mind into something. And fortunately, research shows that people can change the amount of influence they can have in their own level of motivation. But how’s this going to happen?
Well to get down to brass tacks, your real motivator is you and the people you love. Your family, your friends, your girlfriend/boyfriend, anyone you love. That’s exactly what the quote that I was talking about before and my godfather say.
And when I say real motivator, I mean the things that you’ll be thinking when you won’t feel like it. When you will seek another path or another route or a shortcut because the rough times everyone is talking about, came earlier than you thought. That’s the real motivator.
You’re going to do it for your little sister who wants to be happier ever since your mum left this world or your little brother who has mental retardation or your mother, who has been fighting for you without your dad all these years. That’s what you’ll be thinking when the tough times find you. When the time you got to prove who you are, what you want and if you deserve to have it. You can’t give up on these people. They are the ones you love.
I know that here I picked up some of the worst situations a person can be going through but that’s because many successful people had these worst situations and they’re living proof that when you see your people in bad positions you have to do everything to see them happy. So you have to define who you’re doing it for. Even if it’s just for yourself!
As for the motivational videos, speeches, articles, and quotes I’m not going to say that they are useless. Of course, they can help you. You may find a quote that identifies exactly what you are going through and can keep you motivated. But mostly these kind of motivation don’t last.
You read a story about how he reached his goal or listen to a motivational speaker talking about success stories and you get all hyped up, excited to achieve your goal but as the time gets by you feel less motivated and less and less and then you no longer feel like keep pushing it. Even if you go and read the story or watch the guy talking about it again, no matter how many times you do it, you won’t feel that excitement and ambition you expected to.
And this sucks because many people, lean on this kind of motivation and while they see that it’s not working they start to feel worthless. No!!! That’s wrong. You weren’t worthless before neither you are now. You just need to change your tactics.
But don’t put words in my mouth, about the videos and articles and all that. I said before that these can help you. And it’s good for you to read articles, quotes and listening to motivational music and speeches as by combining these with your real motivator will give you an extra boost, will push you to go a little further. So keep that in mind too.
Luckily or not other outsiders factors can affect and change more than a little, the amount of your motivation and determination:
- Don’t overthink it.
As much you think about it you feel less motivated and more weak to do what you want to do. You process so many times what difficulties you may find in your journey that makes them look like giant walls that are impossible to pass through. Limit these overthinking by replacing it with your real motivator! That’s what I want and what you want to think if you are going to achieve your goal - Consistency
Plan what you’re going to do and stick to your plan. Don’t do what the amateurs do “Put my 100% whenever I feel motivated and when I don’t feel like it, I will just not think about it until I get motivated again.” No. Show professionalism. Be professional with yourself. - Exercise & good sleep.
Studies have shown that your health can affect negatively or positively your way on your goal. It depends on how much you care about yourself! But exercising and sleeping well can only affect your way positively. It may seem that your health can’t affect how are you going to achieve your goal in the short-term but I guarantee you that after 3 weeks,1 month or 2 months you’re going to start seeing some bad effects like the decreased amount of productivity, less energy, and more importantly less motivation.
Conclusion
I hope that with the article above I threw away a good amount of value because this’s exactly what I want, help you with possible problems you may face.
I also wish you to find your real motivator and finally show the world what you are capable of and get what you really deserve, because “You didn’t come this far only to come this far”. Remember this!
Until next time.
